TIPS & TRICKS
* GOING EASY ON THE BUDGET *
Spending money is so easy to do, but even millioners do so with wisdom and common sense. There are also two sides to this coin, earning much ofen calls for spending much more, and earning just a little would dictate spending less.
*** When you have to commute around Metro manila, take a jeepney instead o flagging down a taxi. To go from one end to another, you may have to take two rides. To ease your discomfort, it is best to keep in mind that very often, "the longest way around is the shortest way home ".
--------IF your destination is not on jeepney routes, and you have to take a taxi, take with you a city street map you can buy rom bookstore, A drive can size up his passenger and when he sees that you are not privy to short-cuts, he will take you on a round-about way in order to increase meter reading.
*** If you need to buy towels, clothing materials or underwear, go to Divisoria or to a tiangge. The latter is often found on side streets and even beside shopping malls.
--------- Shopping or new bouses and skirts or pants? Look out for store sales. There is no need or sidnature clothes and imported dreasses, unless you have just won in the megalotto.
*** When you have to replenish your kitchen shelves with grocery items, list down what you realy need,and just send your maid to buy them. Going there yourself,specially after pay-day, may temp you to buy more after taking a close look at what are displayed on store shelves. You will end up putting on more weight aside from spending more.
---------- To save on phone bills - place your long-distance calls after 7:00 pm, or on sundays and holidays.
*** TO save on water - not just to lower your money bills, but because our world is drying up; when washing dishes, pots and plans, don't pour the rinse water down the drain. Collec even the soapy watern a pail and use it for watering the plants in your garden. Tell your cook to save also the water used for washing fish. It will be a good fertilizer. he suds water will help away aphids from your potted plants.
------------- To save on gasul: When cooking beef stew, don't jus boil enough or one meal. Braise enough beef cuts for three meals,boil and when tender,take out the meat for two future meals, set aside (when cool, freeze). Only then should you add the vegetables, potatoes and spices for what you will serve for dinner. Boiling for three meals saves you gas as well as time for the uture meals. When you cook beef stew a second time , you will just add more water, and the veggies and spices. You will also discover that beef stew kept in the reezer or at least a week loses the usual pungent small and is more delicious.
*** If your husband loves hamburgers, you can save time and money by preparing them instead of buying rom fast foods. Mix enough or at least a dozen hamburgers, shaped, lay them on waxed paper-lined freezer containers, and freeze. You can then just take out two or three ready-to-cook when he asks or a midnight snack.
-------------- To save on appliances wear and tear unplug your refrigerator and freezer whenever brownouts occur if you do not have a voltage regulator. Don't turn them back on at least ive minutes after the current comes back. I you forget to unplug, the sudden surge of power will rev the motor overmuch and cause it to breakdown eventually.
